Stroud based Video Production agency answer another important question!
If I had a penny for every time a client has asked me to produce a corporate video which would ‘go viral’ I’d be a very rich person.
Most company videos get a few thousand views if they’re lucky – ( and I suspect many of these are from the person who commissioned the video clicking to check the view numbers).
Viral means millions.
Take the Gangnam Style phenonomen:
Yes, that figure is correct 2.2 billion views…
Or how about the Nyan Cat:
120 million views – of a 30 second loop showing an animated cartoon cat…
So how do you produce a video which gets these viewing figures?
Answer – you can’t…but…why would you want to?
If your video is targeted at the people who can most affect your bottom line, and you go out of your way to make sure they watch it, well who needs millions of hits.
Like everything else in the commercial world, quality and targeting will always trump the scattergun approach.
Not long ago we produced a video which was designed to look like a broadly targeted overview of a company’s ability to deliver to out-of-the way places around the world. In fact it was designed and produced to persuade one very influential potential customer who, if convinced, could radically change the client’s fortunes. The fact that many others saw the video as well was just a by product of the real objective.
So, when planning your video, long before you decide what the content should be, think carefully about who exactly you want to influence and how you are going to ensure that they watch the video in its entirety.
